In the past, people carried around address books and planners. Then the PDA was developed and released. With a PDA, you can manage all of your contacts and schedules, send and read e-mails and even listen to music. Its like your own small computer. To start with, Personal Digital Assistants were just used for basic information. The more advanced models now do a lot more and can be used in nearly the same ways as a laptop computer.
PDAs aren’t completely like laptop computers though. To start with, to type information it is either through a small keyboard or by handwriting recognition. Unfortunately with these keyboards, its a lot more hard to type so it takes longer to type something. Also, a PDA can use a lot more battery life than a normal laptop, mainly PDAs with color screens. The amount of programs you can use on them is limited too because of the small screen.
Even with these small problems, PDAs keep getting more and more well loved. Everyone seems to have one these days, especially people with business-related jobs. This is because PDAs can have applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, databases and financial management.
When you’re looking to buy a PDA, you’ll need to know the two types of PDA. First, there is the Palm Pilot PDA, and then the Windows Mobile PDA. The Palm Pilot was the first operating system for PDAs, and is very simple to use. Windows Mobile has a lot more advanced features but is more complicated to use.
The main thing to look out for when you’re shopping for a PDA is to look at the features that the PDAs support, and what you’ll need the PDA to do. Find out which type of PDA would be best for you by researching the applications that work on both, and then make your choice.
